How can you achieve sufficient visibility through the windscreen?

To keep good visibility through the windscreen, the rule of thumb is: prevent a film of moisture or dirt from building up, and clear it immediately when it appears.

In fog, moisture settles on the glass very quickly and can create a thin layer that looks like “haze.” Using the windscreen wipers occasionally removes this moisture layer and keeps your view clear. If needed, combine this with the washer fluid, because wipers alone can smear if there’s dirt on the screen.

With slush, the danger is that spray from other vehicles can suddenly cover your windscreen and you may lose visibility for a moment. Switching the wipers on early means they are already moving when the slush hits, so the screen gets cleared immediately instead of you reacting too late.

Turning the ventilator off and keeping windows closed when the windscreen is steamed up is the opposite of what you should do. Steaming up is condensation on the inside; you need airflow and usually warm air (and often the A/C or demister setting) to remove moisture from the cabin air and clear the glass quickly.
